Our Story

Stitch and Chatter opened on April 1, 2010. We decided to start the quilt shop because we saw a need for a sewing and quilt shop in our area.  Dennis runs a small farm and Idona has a full time job as a rural mail carrier.  Together, with the help of 4 part-time employees, we keep the shop running 6 days a week.

Dennis' mother and grandmother belonged to a ladies club in Speed, KS named Stitch and Chatter, hence the name.  We started out with just a few sewing notions and about 200 bolts of cotton fabric.  Since that time, we have grown and are bursting at the seams in our little shop on Main street.

We decided to purchase a building at 320 Main in the spring of 2015. I thought it would be some paint and new shelves. Boy was I wrong! After many hours of remodeling, with the help of our sons Duane and Dave, and local contractor Layn Balthazor, we now have new electrical, new plumbing, new lighting and a great new look. We hope you will step into our new shop and see what we have to offer. It is always a work in progress.

Stitch and Chatter offers a variety of sewing notions and quilting fabric and supplies.  We offer sewing classes for young and old alike, provide a free sew night, started the Happy Stitchers, a group of hand sewing enthusiasts, offer machine quilting services, and mending.  Aside from that we offer a unique place for local quilters to just gather and share ideas and projects.  Everyone is welcome at our shop and are always greeted with genuine friendship.

As if that isn't enough, we wanted to reach more customers, so we opened our Etsy shop on the internet as well as linked our products with Pinterest.  With this new adventure we hope to grow our business even further!
